Today is one of those days that deserves a special post: our blog has officially reached 3,000,000 visits. To be honest, I never thought we would reach this figure...

And it is not just a number. It represents hundred thousands of moments in which someone, somewhere in the world, stopped by to read an article, learn something new, find inspiration, solve a problem, or simply spend a few minutes exploring the content published here. For that reason, this milestone belongs as much to you as it does to me.

A Journey Built One Post at a Time

Over the years, this blog has covered a wide range of English Learning Topics. From practical vocabulary sheets and educational resources to grammar explantions, links to world news, recommendations and learning strategies, the goal has always been the same: to create content that is useful, interesting, worth your time, and why not fun at the same time..

Many of the most popular posts have been used to foster students' interaction, to improve learners' pronunciation and to enhance exam performance. Readers have shared their experiences, suggestions, corrections, and ideas, helping to improve their language learning strategies.

Amazed and Grateful: Celebrating Our Blog’s Incredible Growth

I’m absolutely delighted—and, to be honest, still a little amazed—by the incredible growth this blog has experienced over the past months.

What began as a space to share ideas and resources has blossomed into something far bigger than I ever imagined, and it’s all thanks to you.

Looking back at our milestones fills me with pride and gratitude:

- First blog entry: 1st November 2007

- First 100,000 hits on 30th April 2013

- We made half a million visits on 29th October 2019

- Later, we reached 1 million visits on 7th March 2025

- Then 1.5 million visits on 8th April 2026

- And, incredibly, 2 million visits on 4th June 2026

Seeing these numbers climb so quickly has been both astonishing and inspiring.

The recent traffic has been simply extraordinary. Last month alone brought 326,939 visits, and this June we’ve surpassed half a million visits (554,167). We're about to reach 2.5M visits... These figures are not just numbers—they represent readers, educators, learners, and a vibrant community that continues to grow every single day.

I feel deeply grateful for every visit, every comment, every shared post. Your support keeps this space alive and motivates me to continue creating, sharing, and improving.

A Heartfelt Goodbye to Onestopenglish

Today, I want to say a deeply emotional goodbye to a learning companion that has been part of my journey for many, many years.

Since 1999, Onestopenglish has been there for my students and me—a constant source of inspiration, creativity, and support. Through its ideas, activities, and resources, it has shaped countless lessons and enriched our classes in ways that are difficult to put into words.

As they bid farewell, they leave us with one final gift: The Little Book of Onestopenglish. A small treasure, filled with memories and the spirit of everything they’ve given us over the years. Do take a moment to enjoy it.

Dear students

As we are  leaving behind the exam period, well, only one left, I encourage you to indulge in topics that genuinely captivate your interest. It's an ideal opportunity to revive your interest for the English language by engaging with content that resonates with you.
A current topic we would not like to deal wth, will be looked into tomorrow to start with.
You might consider allocating time to listen to thought-provoking TED Talks or BBC podcasts, which can provide a wealth of knowledge and stimulate engaging discussions. Alternatively, you could channel your creativity into writing reviews of books, TV series, restaurants, or concerts that have left a lasting impression on you.

Revisiting previous posts on pronunciation, grammar or practising shadowing exercises using texts from your textbooks can also be a valuable way to hone your linguistic skills. Moreover, organizing an English Hour with classmates or friends can be a delightful way to maintain momentum, whether you choose to debate current events, share personal anecdotes, or discuss future plans.

If you've been meaning to start reading a book that's been recommended to you, now is the perfect time to embark on that literary journey. Or you might read national, international or local news. The key takeaway is to ensure that your engagement with the language remains consistent, leveraging your interests and hobbies to fuel your reading, viewing, and listening habits.

In the event that you require some extra inspiration, I will resume to provide ideas and suggestions in the remaining days of June and throughout July.

Blue Schools

Our EOI is carrying out a collaborative project within the framework of the Blue Schools network, together with two African schools: in Lagos (Nigeria) and in Labourdonnais (Mauritius). This project would seek to inform and raise awareness among students and the community of the environmental problems in a specific area of their local coast. Logically, we have chosen our Mar Menor.

The project consists of two parts. The first would be the celebration of a "Blue Week" in our EOI, possibly during the first or second week of March. We would carry out different information and awareness activities: one or more talks and a guided tour of the mural at Calle Gisbert are being considered. We would love your participation, collaboration, and ideas.

Our School would like to repeat the Mar Menor photo exhibition we had a few years ago. You can send snaps to blueschool2025@gmail.com with the subject MAR MENOR, and write: a phrase in the language you study describing the photo, full name and year in the message. You can give the physical photo to your teacher with the same data instead.

The second part of the project would be aimed mainly at French and English students (languages with which Mauritius and Nigeria will participate respectively) but could also include students of other languages speaking in Spanish. It would consist of one or more videos/presentations showing these coastal areas to the other schools, explaining the existing environmental problems and possible solutions. Further information will be provided soon, as everything is still in process.

• Use appropriate words and intonation patterns

• Recall words and structures quickly
• Organize his thoughts and ideas in logical sentences
• Adjust his speech according to his audience, situation and subject matter

1. Trust yourself. What you are saying is right. You prepared the topic carefully and chose phrases and structures seen in the textbook and in class which are the usual ones to talk about that specific issue. So, you should not be afraid of using them. It is not the first time you are talking about this. You have heard and spoken on this topic before.
2. You have revised the vocabulary sheets and words in context you found in the readings you have been doing throughout the year. You have chosen the necessary specific vocabulary dealing with the proposed topic. The moment you hear about it, a large number of words and phrases related to this field come to your mind.
3. You can pronounce intelligibly. Your classmates, language assistant and teacher understand you perfectly well, even though you mispronounce a few words. You try to avoid those words you are not sure to pronounce correctly. You participate in class whenever speaking is required and are not afraid of making mistakes (they are necessary to learn).
4. You have rehearsed at home and in class. You usually speak in front of your classmates, language assistant and teacher; your speech flows. You know how to deal with the time you have to do your speech/interaction. You have structured ideas and times and know your plan will work out well.

‘We got rid of one problem and woke up with another’‌

Dear readers,

The fall of Bashar al-Assad last Sunday following a lightning offensive by rebel groups sparked scenes of joy throughout Syria as a protracted civil war and more than half a century of iron-clad dictatorship came to an end. The country now looks to the future with a transitional government in place that aims to draft a new Constitution within six months. However, the path to democracy remains fraught with obstacles. Not only will the fundamentalist militia Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, which led the offensive against the regime, need to accommodated, Israel has already taken advantage of the power vacuum to stage a military operation on Syrian soil for the first time since the 1973 Yom Kippur War, with the aim of preventing the incoming authorities from using military capabilities against the Jewish State, and the rearming of Hezbollah.

We interviewed Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko, who discussed the evolution of relations with Washington when the Donald Trump administration takes the reins and the current situation on the battlefield, as well as Ukraine's accession to NATO. "We already have the Budapest Memorandum and it did not serve any purpose in terms of Ukraine’s security. That’s why there should be very clear security guarantees for Ukraine. And right now I can’t imagine these guarantees without NATO," he told EL PAÍS.

Elsewhere, we looked at how the nomination of Elon Musk devotee Jared Isaacman as NASA administrator could affect the U.S. space agency and the possibility of future missions to Mars, examined how Chevy Chase became one of America's most beloved comedy icons despite an abrasive personality that led one observer to note "not everyone hates Chevy Chase. Just the people who have worked with him," and took a trip to the “World Capital of the UFO Phenomenon,” La Rumorosa in Mexico, to see if the truth is out there.

US election campaign enters home stretch

As the U.S. presidential election approaches on November 5, with the outcome too close to call according to polls, Kamala Harris issued a call to Americans to put “country above party” and to reject the ambitions “of wannabe dictators.” “For too long, we have been consumed with too much division, chaos and mutual distrust. It can be easy then, to forget a simple truth: it doesn’t have to be this way,” the Democratic candidate said.

Ahead of the vote to decide the next occupant of the White House, we interviewed Rosario Marin, a former U.S. treasurer under George W. Bush who intends now to vote for Harris. "There is no Republican Party anymore. Trump is the party," says Marin, who also casts doubts on the Electoral College: "The system was meant to be fair at the time, but today it is unfair for the democracy that we are. I predict Harris will win by 10 million votes. And yet she may still lose."

Also this week, we interviewed Sean Baker, whose latest film Anora has been creating Oscars buzz after picking up the Palme d'Or in Cannes, took a look at the real life successions unfolding at some of the wealthiest companies in the world, and spoke to Jane Rosenburg, who has spent four decades sketching some of the most famous faces to pass through the U.S. judicial system, from Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán to Donald Trump and Harvey Weinstein.
