May I ask what probably might be classified as a silly question "afraid of or afraid to"?
First of all: questions to learn are NEVER silly. As we saw only yesterday in class dictionaries are one of the best tools to solve this type of questions. Look up the word in Cambridge Dictionary and the first 5 examples are:
He was/felt suddenly afraid. (adjective alone);
I've always been afraid of flying/heights/spiders. (afraid of);
She was afraid for her children (= feared that they might be hurt). (afraid for);
[ + to infinitive ] Don't be afraid to say what you think. (afraid to do smth);
[ + (that) ] She was afraid (that) he might be upset if she told him. (afraid (that))
