EL PAÍS in English

Dear readers,

It has been a year since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Our correspondents spoke with residents of Irpin and Bucha who were part of the first line of defense that prevented Moscow from taking Kyiv.

In science news, EL PAÍS interviewed a team of physics researchers who say they have made "science fiction come true" by demonstrating that quantum particles can be rejuvenated or reverted to a previous state.

And our Italy correspondent explains why Venice's famous canals are drying out, driving tourists away.

Dear readers,

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, our correspondents spoke with survivors and asked experts about the aftershocks that continue to be felt in the region.

We also paid close attention to the surprise decision by the Nicaragua regime to release 222 political prisoners and put them on a plane to the US; President Daniel Ortega denies the move has anything to do with sanctions against his family.

In science news, we interviewed a cancer expert who says a time will soon come when a blood test will determine if tissue is becoming malignant, allowing for early treatment.
