US-Venezuela oil agreement
This week’s big story was the new U.S.-Venezuela oil agreement, which will give Washington access to 17 Venezuelan oil fields and has triggered a wave of fresh investment announcements. The White House has presented the deal as a strategic win, but investment banks say the agreement is unlikely to have a meaningful effect on oil prices.
Meanwhile, we spoke with Darializa Ávila Chevalier, the Afro-Latina democratic socialist who stunned New York’s political establishment with an upset primary victory and now appears headed for Congress.
