I’ve been mulling over the expression “to make someone’s day,” and how in Spanish we use it almost the opposite way with “me has dado el día,” which obviously has a very negative connotation....
Absolutely! In English "dar el día" would be something like "ruin sb's day"; while "make sb's day" would be "alegrar el día".
