This English rhythm issue should be dealt with in our learning process from the very beginning, not later. You learn Spanish rhythm at the same time as you start speaking the language... . The problem for Spanish speakers is that English rhythm is time-stressed, not syllable-stress like Spanish. We have to get used to the difference, and not use Spanish rhythm when speaking English.
We do have content and function words in Spanish, but we don't have long and short vowels or schwas.
