News from El País in English

El País English Edition 27th March 2021

Dear readers,

The coronavirus incidence rate continues to rise in Spain, prompting fears the country could be entering a fourth wave of the pandemic. This comes at a time when only half of the 80-and-over population has been vaccinated against Covid-19, according to an estimate by EL PAÍS.

In the meantime, there is growing frustration over Spain's Easter travel restrictions – while foreign tourists can vacation in the country, residents are not allowed to travel outside their regional border. In response to the situation, the European Commission has called on Spain for "coherence."

In vaccine news, Spain has lifted the age limit for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to 65. But the temporary suspension of its use over health concerns has considerably delayed the rollout. Despite this, the country is still on track to vaccinate 70% of the adult population with at least one dose by June.

And finally, we looked at the incredible story of former Barcelona basketball star Charles Thomas who disappeared for 40 years only to turn up in a center for people with disabilities in Texas.

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from the EL PAÍS English Edition, and that you are staying safe.

Thanks for reading.
