Three simple activities with homophones

Read the list of homophones and:

1. Highlight the pairs you didn't know that were homophones.

2. Spot the odd man out: only ONE pair is composed by two words that are NOT homophones.

3. Write five more pairs of homophones (not included in the list).

Wow! How interesting! Not only have I corrected my pronunciation (I've found pairs that I didn't know they were homophones), but also I've learned the meaning of a few words. It has been like a challenging game. I think I have found 2 pairs of words that are not really homophones: AFFECT- EFFECT and EMIGRATE-IMMIGRATE.

As always, ... Thank you teacher!

You beat me! You found two extra I thought they were homophones (actually phonemes /e/ and /ɪ/ tend to become /ə/ in unstressed positions). Affect /ə′fekt/ vs Effect /ɪˈfekt/
The pair I found (I think I mentioned in class) was further /ˈfɜːðə/ vs farther /ˈfɑːðə/

Yes, you're right! You insisted in class on the difference in meaning between "further" and "farther". As I saw them in the list, I remembered what you said about the difference in meaning, you fooled me and I didn't check the pronunciation of them ;)
