Sexual violation against a child destroys a human being’s future. One in five children are victims of sexual offences. We want to protect them from this traumatic experience.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Lanzarote Convention deals with prevention, protection and prosecution related to the sexual exploitation and abuse of children. It asks states to criminalise all forms of such acts including child prostitution, child pornography and grooming. 42 states have so far ratified the treaty, which remains the most comprehensive international document protecting children and prosecuting aggressors.
A series of videos on children’s rights is available, aimed at breaking the silence and raising awareness of the problem.
The video Tell someone you trust was prepared with the help of children. It explains what the Lazarote Convention does for them.
The key messages of the video, available in a number of languages, are explained in the related booklet. You can order it from docrequest@coe.int
