Dear readers,
On Thursday, two days after the second anniversary of the outbreak of the Gaza war, Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to implement the preliminary phase of a peace plan to bring an end to the conflict, which includes the return of all remaining hostages in the Strip.
Meanwhile, we reported on the ongoing human suffering in Gaza, where many children have lost access to schooling and survivors continue to live amid the devastation wrought by Israeli attacks.
We also looked at the case of several Salvadorans deported under the Trump administration who vanished into El Salvador’s jails, with little to no information provided by U.S. or Salvadoran authorities. The case resembles one of “enforced disappearances,” and has been brought before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
And in other news, we caught up with Maye Musk, who shared what it’s like to raise the world’s richest man; spoke with the father of paleogenetics about how Neanderthals help explain who we are; and sat down with Ron Perlman to review his storied career.
We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from EL PAÍS USA Edition.
