EL PAÍS (Spanish News in English)

Aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla

Dear readers,

This week, our correspondent Carlos de Barrón reported on the Global Sumud Flotilla from on board the Captain Nikos. The vessel was seized by the Israeli naval forces, along with almost all the others, and De Barrón was arrested.

We also traveled to Cuba, where the economic crisis has led to a rise in homelessness and poverty. What's more, the expansion of the private sector and the emergence of MSMEs has deepened inequality — the very problem the Cuban Revolution promised to solve.

And one of our most-read stories this week was about the randoseru, the backpack that costs hundreds of dollars and is used by every Japanese schoolchild.

We hope you enjoy this selection of articles from EL PAÍS USA Edition.
