Raúl Castro indictment
/ɪnˈdaɪt.mənt/ shows how far Trump is willing to go in Cuba

Dear readers,

All eyes are on Cuba after the Donald Trump administration indicted /ɪnˈdaɪtɪd/ Raúl Castro for the deaths of four people in the shooting down of two civilian planes in 1996. The move against the 94-year-old former president is a decisive step in plans to force regime change on the island.

The other big story this week was in Spain, where former prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has been accused of influence peddling in a probe linked to the Spanish government's €53 million ($57.2 million) bailout of the airline Plus Ultra. This is the first time since Spain's transition to democracy that a former prime minister has been investigated for corruption.

We also examined why Colombian bodyguards are in such high demand, spoke with the German journalist who infiltrated a neo-Nazi group, and looked at why locals are furious about the renovations carried out at one of Spain's oldest hotels.

We hope you enjoy this selection of stories from EL PAÍS USA Edition.
