Read the following text and try to remember the meanings:

On a warm summer evening, the sun was shining gently over the calm sea. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed among the distant clouds, making the horizon briefly flare with blinding brightness. For a moment, the strong glare on the water made it hard to look ahead.

As dusk fell, the old lamp by the pier began to flicker, while the waves softly glimmered under the rising moon. The polished surface of a boat gleamed in the fading light, and every ripple of the sea seemed to glint like silver. After a brief rain shower, the wet road and the leaves glistened in the last rays of sunlight.

When night arrived, the palace by the bay glittered with hundreds of lights, while the embers in a nearby fire still glowed with warmth. Across the water, reflections shimmered, delicate and uncertain. Above, the sky sparkled with countless stars, and far away, in the valleys, the little village lights began to twinkle.
