EL PAÍS (Spanish news in English)
Dear readers,
As Trump berated his audience at the United Nations General Assembly this week, telling representatives that "your countries are going to hell" over their immigration policies, we looked at how he himself is doing on his mission to conduct the largest deportation in history.
Elsewhere in the world, our correspondent in the Middle East explored the West Bank settlement with which Israel plans to make a Palestinian state impossible, and our Mexico reporters investigated the Jalisco New Generation cartel's ruthless recruitment methods.
We also spoke with author Dan Brown of Da Vinci Code fame about his new book, looked at advances in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, and discussed the merits of Dead Internet Theory.

On a warm summer evening, the sun was shining gently over the calm sea. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed among the distant clouds, making the horizon briefly flare with blinding brightness. For a moment, the strong glare on the water made it hard to look ahead.
As dusk fell, the old lamp by the pier began to flicker, while the waves softly glimmered under the rising moon. The polished surface of a boat gleamed in the fading light, and every ripple of the sea seemed to glint like silver. After a brief rain shower, the wet road and the leaves glistened in the last rays of sunlight.
When night arrived, the palace by the bay glittered with hundreds of lights, while the embers in a nearby fire still glowed with warmth. Across the water, reflections shimmered, delicate and uncertain. Above, the sky sparkled with countless stars, and far away, in the valleys, the little village lights began to twinkle.

Thank you for being such an essential part of my journey.

EL PAÍS (Spanish News in English)
This September marks a year since the bloody war between two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel broke out in Mexico. EL PAÍS traveled to Sinaloa to speak with residents about the impact of the conflict, which has claimed thousands of lives, shuttered businesses and led to a surge in missing persons.
Meanwhile, tensions between the United States and Venezuela continue to rise. Trump said three vessels have been sunk, while Maduro is gearing up for a possible invasion: a priest is currently walking around Venezuela, sprinkling holy water on Bolivarian Army tanks.
And in other news, we spoke to U.S. philosopher Michael Sandel about the rise of the far right, talked to JFK’s only grandson about why he's become a viral sensation, and paid tribute to Robert Redford, who passed away this week at the age of 89.

EL PAÍS (Spanish New in English)
Dear readers,
The fatal shooting on Wednesday of conservative activist Charlie Kirk revives grim memories for a country that has witnessed a wave of ideological crimes fueled by a deeply polarized society. President Trump has blamed the "radical left" for the crime and promised retribution.
Meanwhile, in Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro is calling on citizens to enlist to defend the country in the event of a hypothetical incursion. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials have posted ambiguous messages on social media suggesting something could be about to happen.
On the economic front, a battle is brewing between the U.S. and Mexico with an eye on the upcoming review of the USMCA free trade treaty. Trump has a long list of trade barriers he wants removed, and he is also hoping to secure wins in the political and immigration spheres.
This week we interviewed Russian mercenaries who are "lucky to be alive," the illustrator of Tolkien's works, and two retired American sopranos who are helping singers repair their damaged voices out of an Italian palazzo.
